In a report titled “Community Pharmacy COVID-19 Vaccination Data for November 2022”, made available to Pharmanewsonline, the association revealed the states where vaccination took place and number of facilities supported for the exercise.
The report was released on Wednesday, 14 December, 2022, by the Research and Development Unit of the association.
The six states used as centres for vaccination as stated in the report were: Oyo, Akwa-Ibom, Cross-rivers, Kaduna, FCT, and Rivers.
Recall that the Federal Government unveiled COVID-19 vaccination at community pharmacies during in June this year to boost Nigeria’s efforts at attaining the national target of 70 per cent coverage in deference to attainment of herd immunity.
Also as part of efforts aimed at breaching the gap in human resources in the health sector, the ACPN in collaboration with the National Primary Health care Development Agency successfully trained no fewer than 200 community pharmacists on COVID-19 vaccination and routine immunisation.
According to the update, out of the 1,240 people vaccinated from the five states, Oyo had (671), Akwa-Ibom (99), Cross-rivers (400), Kaduna (52), and FCT (18)
A total of 116 supported facilities were used from the reported six states. These are Oyo (23), Akwa-Ibom (14), Cross-rivers (13), Kaduna (26), FCT (22), and Rivers (18).
In a recently held press conference to herald the 41st Annual Scientific Conference of the Association tagged “AJUMOSE EKO 2022,” the National Chairman of the Association, Pharm. Adewale Aderemi Oladigbolu, expressed that the country needs more health resources, and community pharmacists to close that gap in COVID-19 vaccination exercise.
